The son of a Banker and a mum who repped World Book Encyclopedia, South African born Delon Govender was a smart well rounded young man who eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Fine Art at the University of Durban Westville in South Africa post High School. During his studies and directly after graduation, he worked in banking and served with the Department of Education for two years before immigrating to Perth, Western Australia over 17 years ago.
Delon was sought after for portrait commission work post-university as his keen observation skills & attention to detail was second to none. His love of nature and the great outdoors has been a constant inspiration in his art. His work oftentimes is a reflection of a time and place in his life with Africa being depicted quite often through the big five and the previously marginalised local native people of Kwa-zulu Natal. He ventured into the shanty towns of Natal with camera in hand when most non-natives did not dare due to the separation policies of the then apartheid government. At a time when racial harmony was at an all-time low in SA, Delon's infectious dimpled smile, friendly disposition, and free-spirited adventurous nature allowed him the opportunity to explore the rich tapestry of the African culture - the result was an early collection of artwork that captured this brilliantly with his clever use of vibrant colour - these artworks were full of life; they drew you in on the journey that he was on - it told a part of his life story. African wildlife featured in many of his artworks as well and these sold as quickly as they were created.
Delon is an artist who embraces many types of artistic expression that amply & effectively lets him channel his creative thoughts, ideas, and energies, honing in on his attention to detail, to produce the varied artistic visuals that he puts out there - he's confident and comfortable whether using a paintbrush, oil or water paint, a stick of chalk, a pencil or charcoal... and, he kept up with the fast-paced digital era, that we were plunged so rapidly into, with the use of computers as a new means of artistic expression via graphic design.
Combining his artistic knowledge and experience with graphic design, in 2007 Delon worked as a storyboard artist and matte painter in the three-part dramatised series, "Air Australia" - A Film Australia National Interest Program in association with Vue DC produced with the assistance of ScreenWest, Lotterywest and the ABC for which he received an AFI nomination in the category "Best Visual Effects Artist Australia 2007". The storyboards produced currently reside in an aviation museum in Queensland.
Currently, Delon is the principle of a Perth based web & graphic design agency, Vector & Pixel. His love of photography has grown through the years to include the exciting world of aerial photography which quite literally has taken things to new heights (he's rarely found out & about without his Nikon in tow). His art has evolved to include contemporary abstract paintings with Australian landscapes being a huge inspiration in recent years.
He's worked with local artists within the community on several occasions from mural projects in the heart of Northbridge to currently privately collaborating with a friend and local Noongar Artist to produce some pretty stunning canvases that no doubt "break the mold".
Collectors of Delon's art range far and wide from both private & public collections such as a council building & hospital in Western Australia to private collections in South Africa and the Republic of Ireland.
