Life within the canopy - Australia
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia. Looking at much of the Australian Coastal landscape pre-colonisation one thing is apparent - life existed within a canopy along much of the coastal belt - Clearing the giant trees that once protected life within from the harmful rays of the sun, has now left life in many urban and suburban areas exposed. Whilst impossible to replace the protective canopy forestation, there exists an opportunity like never before to create shade and electricity utilising solar tiles and store and reuse that electricity with solar battery storage technology - Our favourite public beachfront spots and town centres should be self-powered areas with charging points for electric vehicles etc - These areas should be feeding power into the power grid rather than drawing from it- if we embrace future technology and smart design, there are plenty of jobs and opportunities that can be created - Shade created this way will also help in the fight against skin cancer - we the people need more shade on our beautiful beaches!
Food for thought!
